Zach started playing tennis when he was about 3 years old. His Dad would take him to the local club when he would practice. He would toss balls to him to hit or turn the ball machine on and let it gently pop balls to him. He became more serious when he was about 11 years old and took lessons first from several pros in the Downingtown area. He then trained extensively with Eric Riley who coached Lisa Raymond, a top ranked touring WTA professional. For several years he worked with Eric and developed a foundation of an attacking, all court style of play, with an emphasis on his big weapon: a punishing forehand.
Zach began to play local junior tournaments and soon became a top ten player in the sectional rankings as he entered the 14 and under age division. He finished 2005 as the number one player in the Philadelphia District and a ranking of 9 in the Tri State area. He began to work with Kevin Reilly out of The Riverside Tennis Club in Bala Cynwyd PA. During this time he continued to win local tournaments in the 16's and then decided to take a break from tournament play. He picked things back up in 2008 placing in the top 5 in the last six tournaments he played with wins over multiple top 15 ranked players in the Middle States section.
After playing on the varsity team for Great Valley High School in 2008 and 2009 he is attending Penn State University in University Park PA and is enrolled in the college of engineering. He plays number singles for the Travel Team at Penn State.
And, when he feels inspired he plays bass in Idiosyncracy, his Dad's original music rock band.
